The 300 Blackout caliber: short-barrel performance

The 300 AAC Blackout (300 BLK) was specifically developed to maximize short-barrel performance. Where 5.56 NATO loses 20-30% of its velocity below 12", 300 BLK is optimized for the 7"-10.5" range:

.30 cal ballistics superior to 5.56 in terms of energy delivered on target.
Superior ballistics to 7.62x39 Soviet with greater load flexibility.
Subsonic/supersonic compatibility with the same 1:8" twist.

5.56 BCG and magazine compatibility

Important point: the 300 S uses the same BCGs and standard magazines as 5.56 NATO AR-15s. This compatibility is a major advantage for owners who already have 5.56 AR-15s: same BCG spare parts, same magazines, same lower. Only the upper receiver (barrel + handguard) is 300 BLK-specific.
